So several months ago I finally was urged to try out oils instead of acrylics. I completed one painting, a friends little girl. I see room for improvement myself but they absolutely adore it so I’m happy with her too!

Then I was given the opportunity to paint a German Shepherd, and let me tell you, I am enjoying it so much! I have also been given the opportunity to paint a second one for someone else :)

I have found my paint medium and that makes me ever so happy! With my fibromyalgia affecting my hands a lot, I have to paint some, take a break and then come back. Acrylics don’t allow for this. Oils though. They do.

So I thought I’d come share my current progress of the GSD as well as the little girl painting. I’m hoping to paint some reef paintings one day in the near future.

Very nice work! Any paintings of fish or underwater scenes in the future? :)

Definitely! I’ve painted a betta in acrylic, and I’ve done some digital bettas as well. I was working on an oil painting with some wild type bettas. But I’ve not finished it quite yet. I want to paint something that many don’t, a unique type of fish and coral that you wouldn’t normally see people paint.

I remember seeing and being impressed with the work that you had previously posted and these are equally stunning! For FW, if you may also consider the Licorice gourami fishes which are a little known relative of the bettas. There are also a lot of SW options so I would encourage you to scroll through pictures until you find what resonates with you.

Very nice! My sister is an artist as well. Like you, she found oil paints and has fallen in love with the medium. Here is a '57 Cadillac I commissioned her to paint, and a recent pet portrait she painted for a contest. 20190227_202429.jpg 20190723_215740.jpg
Those are absolutely stunning! Boston’s aren’t an easy breed to capture and she has done fantastic!

I have thought of different gourami, as well as other odd ball fishes. I did paint a cichlid, wanting to say Jewel but I forget if that’s correct or not.

I can imagine that Jewels would make for a pretty picture because of their bright patterns. I have worked and bred them and a few related species of Hemichromis, but I am not particularly a fan because of their status as invasive here in Florida. Another option would be to paint pictures of some of the native fish in your local area.

For the Licorice gouramis, if people have even heard of them then they think about them as a single species (usually Parosphromenus deissneri), however there are actually about 20 known species in the Licorice gourami group and they all look like they are hand painted and are highly endangered.
