I was thinking about putting one par 38 bulb on a gooseneck on a new 5.5 gallon reef ill be doing would this be too much light?

PAR 30 with a wide lens might be a better option, but you will still have the laser beam spotlight in the direct center of the tank.

Thank you just trying to find a lighting option that fits but doesn't kill my wallet

i had a par 30 over my 5 gallon but didn't feel it was enough so i got a AI prime. i know you're not looking to spend much but it's an awesome light and strong enough plus some so can also be used when/if you upgrade to a bigger tank. it's $200 and is fully adjustable through a tablet, smart phone or computer.
