Is there a method for calculating the proper PAR value or LED wattage per gal on a reef tank?

This really depends on the species of coral or other photosynthetic animal, but the acceptable range is typically 100-450 PAR, measured as PPF (which most PAR meters do). Obviously the low end is preferred by low light corals like mushroom corals , whereas the high end would be acceptable for shallow water 'SPS' species.

Thanks for the feedback. The owner of my local aquarium store, Ultimate Aquariums, Daleville VA, has talked bout buying that he could rent out. If recall correctly he said they run a couple of hundred dollars ad it not something that needs constant measurement. Thanks again.
