Pavo damsel less aggressive?

I got this Pavo damsel from biota. I have heard people regretting having a damsel but online it says this species is more friendly. Would you add a Pavo damsel to your display tank?

I would say yes, if you have comparable fish. Damsel get aggressive as the tank is filled with for fish. Damsel are good in larger aquarium as they get older and more space.

Thank you. I just read they are nightmares/ devils but then I read the Pavo damsel is more friendly. Don’t want him causing havoc in my peaceful reef.

Your reply was to an older thread in 2023 but since you asked, and may be looking, I will say that Pavo's can be aggressive in groups as they regularly spawn in home aquaria. The male will protect the nest area very aggressively.

I had 7 in my 210 gallon display and while they are beautiful fish, especially the male during spawning, I could not add any new fish due to their protection of the nests. One male it was not too bad. Two males spawning it got a bit crazy.

If they are the last fish you add it may not matter as everyone will get used to the pattern. New fish won't know the lay of the land and it will be a issue. I rehomed mine to a fellow hobbyist who had a large system to keep them in.

I replaced them with 11 Lyretail Damsels from Biota and very happy with them.
