Nice clouds!!! :p Cool idea for a build thread. Perhaps this is going to be the start of a 30k reply-thread. I’ve always wanted to do an off the wall type of build with spare parts I have laying around.

Thank you for the kind words! Not sure where this thread will go or even where the build will go - I don't have any grand hopes or plans other than the general outline in the original post about attempting to limit the build to using found items. So far this experiment has been able to stay on track with the original goal.

Did I catch a reef squad badge there? New? Or did I just not notice until now?

The tank settle down yet and clear up

The new badge showed up this past week - I am truly humbled and blessed. The tank has cleared up and I have added a couple of new inhabitants, but I have been so busy since MACNA with other fish and non-fish parts of life that I haven't slowed down to take pictures. I'll try to add an update in the next couple of days.

After the tank cleared, here is a picture of the initial aquascape -

All of the pieces were collected from the same location where the fish were collected. Still more work to do but it’s a start....

So far the “uglies” consisted of no more than a mild case of diatoms. The thin lined hermit crab is enjoying the tank and continues to do acrobatics!

Looks great. I like the scape, has that natural look versus a bunch of pilled up rock I have

Thanks! It is definitely minimalistic at this point! I am thinking about maybe adding something to fill in some space on the right side while staying in theme. I am a bit concerned about how the wood will hold up over time but it has been in another one of my tanks for about two years so I don't have to worry about tannins or any quick organic breakdown that sometimes comes with adding soft woods to a tank.

...that's the joy of having many tanks. I saved my pile of rocks for other tanks!

Pretty cool. Very bio type like.

Thanks! At first collecting the fish, sand, and other related stuff to fill the tank seemed like a good way to stay with the theme of "found parts", but the local feel of the tank is something I am beginning to enjoy!

My dad was a commercial fisherman that's how I got into tanks. I had so many 10g tanks in the early 80s built from.... Whatever lol. Brings me back to my child hood.

What neat memories! I still remember flipping rocks and collecting crayfish with my older brother when I was little - still great thoughts!
