I bought a skunk cleaner last night and I was staring at my aquarium a few minutes ago and he's attacking my peppermint shrimp. Since he's only been in my aquarium for less than a day I'm letting it slide because I figure that they need to figure out the pecking order. Is my peppermint shrimp in any danger or are they just working things out? Also my peppermint shrimp molted yesterday, I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it or not.

If the peppermint just molted, I would separate them ASAP. They are sorting out a pecking order, but the peppermint is quite vulnerable since the molt.

How long does it take for shrimp to grow their shell back?
They have an exoskeleton as soon as they shed, it is just soft. It takes a couple days to harden

Ime when mixing these shrimp of the same genus, you periodically get a casualty or two but usually they figure it out then stop fighting unless one is much larger than the other.

I have 2 skunks, a blood red cleaner and a peppermint shrimp in a 32 gallon. I have not seen this behavior, my peppermint shrimp is nocturnal and I don’t see it a lot during the day. The blood red does chase the skunks away if they get too close.

Are they good now?
Some minor chasing is not a concern. Any significant chasing or damage?
I did watch them when I fed them this morning and the skunk shrimp is a jerk. He was chasing my peppermint shrimp around the aquarium. Dude, there's more than enough space for both of you and more than enough food. Stop being a jerk.

Agreed! However, cleaner shrimp can be a formidable predator.

Right now it seems like he's to be a bully to my peppermint shrimp. I may give him a few more days and ask if I can trade him for peppermint shrimp. I like my peppermint shrimp.

Peppermint shrimp are also naturally going to hide a bit more. The skunk cleaners are also very aggressive at feeding time anyway. I once had a skunk cleaner try to fight a nassarius snail for a pellet. The nassarius snail did not know when to stop eating and ended up killing my shrimp.

I added a rock to the aquarium and moved things around and the shrimp are getting along better.
