This is true but also about how to be successful about stocking the 90G:)
Agreed. There are few things worse than watching fish get sick, deteriorate, then die.

Agreed. Now how about bigjohnny stock list and intro order. I would like to learn more about that on this thread. I probably broke some "cardinal" rules there myself. Like tangs and angels with cardinals. 4 clowns, 2 midnights with 2 black ices?

This list looks good. I would add the firefish first and the tang last, the order inbetween doesn't really matter.

I have had to remove aiptasia eating filefish from tanks for nipping at fleshy brain corals after they ate all the aiptasia.

Thank you. The stocking order really helps me. Yes I may hold off on the file fish for now, not too sure bout the copperband either. It's my favorite fish but told it's hit or miss on survival as well as nipping at coral.

Just my opinion.. you have 5 largish fish... with the foxface being likely the largest... I would swap out one or two larger fish and get a couple smaller in its place... too many large fish make a tank look small and out of proportion... just my opinion... add some gobies, blenny, flasher wrasse, cardinals, instead of one or two of the larger ones... especially the foxface which can get pretty huge..

Thanks goskn, I want a foxface additionally due to its algae eating characteristics which are slightly different than the tangs I'm told. A nice compliment.

My must haves from that squad are the tang, the 2 wrasses (if they are compatible, both males), the clown I already own. I guess I would remove the copper band because of its finicky nature, but it's my favorite so maybe no foxface...... hard

I have 4 clownfish , 1 tomini tang, 1 sailfin tang, 1 filefish 1 lawnmower blenny and 4 benghai Cardinals. It's a little heavy I know but seems to be working out so far.
Thanks, in a 90g right? How do you like the lawnmower blenny and does your file fish nip at corals?

ahhh ... the QT debate/dilemma and if and where to get fish online. I know I am going to be dealing with it all in a few months. I am reading this for vicarious pleasure, as we don't even have any water in there yet.
dreaming of my dream fish list. Sailfin Tang is a must. and a few clowns. Other than that, I am just swaying in the current .....
good luck BigJohnny!

Thanks! I qt everything because I'm a germaphobe and it's easy IMO. For me it's just all about the selection of fish. I'll probably order from LA (divers den when possible), and blue zoo.

what if your clown gets lonely? can't he/she have a buddy?? <grin>

She had a buddy then killed him :(. I decided to let her be. She chills with my cleaner shrimp. Plus 1 clown is not as territorial as a bonded pair. I've been told that a bonded pair of adult clowns can be territorial over 50g of tank space.

My apologies. I shouldn't have done that. I thought this thread was supposed to be about stocking a 90 gallon tank. You all seem to be going off on a tangent.
Haha it is but I've gotten some stocking suggestions along the way! Thanks for trying to reel it in. Was a very civil discussion anyway, compared to a lot of the heated ones that occur on the same topic lol. But yes, stocking list suggestions/advice, plus what's your ideal 90g stocking list?!

Love the blenny. He's quite the character. Pecks at the rock like a chicken when hes not pretending to hide while watching us. So far no problems with the filefish. The grandkids call him Dr. Ugly. I only have a few easy corals so far. I'll keep an eye on him as I add more and pricier corals. He did make quik work of the few aiptasia I had. Lfs said I can bring himm back if issues arise.

Thank you. I've heard stocking order can make a huge difference! I'm big into corals but new into the salt fish game now that I'm setting up a more permanent tank. So I need all the help I can get. I'd also love to hear people's ideal 90g stocking list because I'm sure there are some awesome fish/combos I don't even know about or didn't even consider!

For me I want a nice variation of color and some functionality.

So now im thinking:

Clownfish
Whitetail Bristletooth Tang
One Spot Foxface
Melanarus Wrasse
Red Headed Solon Fairy Wrasse
Helfrichi Firefish
Aiptasia Eating Filefish

I like a pink spotted watchman goby as well, but not sure if that would be an issue with the other goby (the firefish), or too many fish period.

I'd also consider switching out the one spot foxface for an algae eating blenny, but hear foxface eat bubble algae which is great.

Thanks!

May want to try a Molly Miller blenny they eat aptipsia to. You can buy them cheap at the coral reef in TN.

You need to look at blue zoo aquatics protocol they don't just observe fish.
