Phyto-Feast culture

Can a product like Reef Nutrition's Phyto-Feast be used to start my own phytoplankton culture or do I really need one of those "starter cultures"?

That has several species in it, culturing would only allow the strongest one to survive. Also not good for diy culture starting.

Try mercers of Montana starter, low cost and proven
