I hated doing it, do I now buy reef nutrition phyto live. Crazy concentrated, if you got a nano, it might be worth it

I had a batch do that, and I did read sources that said it means there's been a bacterial contaminant of some kind added. However I also read that I could run the entire batch through a very fine mesh sieve - I think mine is 180 microns or something to that size though smaller would likely be better so long as the phytoplankton can pass through.

I did that and it saved the batch and the pieces didn't grow back. There's likely some risk involved, so it depends on if you can spare the batch, etc. This was my only batch so it was worth it to try for me.

Thanks for all the reactions!

Im using Guillards f2.

Do u guys think that filterfloss will do the trick? Dont have a very fine mesh at home atm, i could order one but idk of the culture will stay alive for that long. Its a 5gallon batch so i really dont want to lose it.

I have seen something similar on my first batch of phyto, but I thought it was just a grouping of phytoplanton. I would be really interested in knowing what happens for you on this. Can I ask why you decided to do a 5 gallon culture instead of say a few pints?
