Picked up some used gear today.

So I grabbed a sump today, I thought it was a decent price (cheaper than DIY) and the guy threw in a bunch of other stuff, couple power heads, couple of skimmers light ect.

The power heads are cheap AC units so not expecting much from them, but I have no idea on the skimmers. One is labeled “bubble magus” which seems to be a decent brand but seems like it’s missing some things and I can’t ID a model number. The other is completely unlabeled not sure what to expect there.

The sump itself is about 16g volume, and is labled “Inivative Aquarium Products” no clue there either

If anyone could offer any insight to this equipment I’d be very grateful. Even if it’s to tell me it’s trash lol

The electronics are an orbit light controller. You have a hang on back overflow system, a fluidized reactor, and some assorted pumps.

As for the fluidized reactor I’m not even sure I’ll need it I was thinking it was a skimmer lol. That explains why it looks like it’s missing parts.

As for the HOB overflow I’ll have to see if that’s the direction I want to go vs drilling.

I highly recommend against the HOB. They are unreliable and can fail. Drilling is preferable.

Thank you for your recommendation! It seems to be the generally agreed upon best practice. I’m trying to avoid failure points where possible so it looks like I’ll be drilling in that case.

I have no idea what I would be using a reactor for as a new guy just setting a tank up so that may end up sitting on a shelf until I have nutrient issues I need to take care of

The black skimmer is kinda wierd, the downpipe has o-rings like it’s supposed to be sealed to something but that seems atypical for most skimmers.

I also have that crazy thing that looks like it’s supposed to attach to something but no idea what (5th pic down right hand cylindrical shape)

The pumps are pretty cheap units I would replace with new I think before just blindly trusting them. Same with the power heads especially with the Jebao jecod units being so cheap

You'll find a use for those AC units. LOL, last time I had a tank that's all.we had!! And my old RIO2100 was a cheap AC unit that acted ad my return on my 75, then 90 x5 years. Some of those are winners, lol!

Vinegar isnt a good method for cleaning tank equipment. Not that its harmful for the tank inhabitants, but vinegar baths can cause deterioration on plastics and rubber. So you can get gaskets or o rings that can fail... and any magnets that are plastic housed can eventually swell, crack through the plastic, and leach rust. A much better alternative is to make a citric acid bath.

You can get food grade citric acid (normally used for baking) on amazon, and there are tons of posts on this forum if you search on how to mix it up. Much gentler on the equipment and cleans as well as vinegar without the risk of failure.

I saw it and was trying to figure out what it was. It kinda looks like an input for a skimmer where the external pump attaches. Does the skimmer in the bottom right of the last picture have a pump inside it, or a hole on the side to attach a pump, and if not is that piece the same diameter as the skimmer?
I’ve never seen a skimmer that has a removable “input” chamber, but that’s my best guess of what it may be.

I have been trying to google what brand skimmer based upon that logo, but when I zoomed in closer on the picture I don’t think it’s a logo. I thinks it’s just a part for something sitting on the lid. It looks off center and it seems to be covering one of the holes in the lid.

Its either going to be really old, or a cheaply made Chinese skimmer. Either way I doubt you’re going to find much information on it.

I’m shocked you found something so quickly!!! That’s definitely the same skimmer with a few pieces changed here and there likely over the years as things changed/broke

Probably should count on getting a good known brand skimmer and not relying on this one
