Hey all I'm starting a 0.75 gallon pico fish bowl. I just got done with custom plumbing using a closed loop system with no sump. I am now looking for a heating solution for this tank. I want to avoid equipment in the tank if possible.

My question for you all is would a plant germination mat be able to supply heat to this bowl or is that a far fetched idea?

If a seedling mat wouldn't cut it what are some ideas I can use for a very low profile heater

Attached is a picture of the fish bowl im using.

This bowl will not be containing any creatures besides maybe a small hermit crab or 2.

The main focus of this bowl will be a small mangrove tree.

Good question! Some rely on ambient heating. Even a 25w heater would likely be too much for a pico tank that small. Your approach seems reasonable, but further testing may be appropriate.

I wanted to update you. I ended up throwing a seedling mat under the bowl and it looks like overnight it maxed out at 75°f
And that's with my home thermostat set to 68°f and it being 30°f outside the house.
I'm happy with that tomorrow and a mangrove should be able to handle it

Great feedback and I am glad that you had positive results on your test! You may want to share a picture and/or details about the mat that you are using (e.g. where other can find it, etc.). Additionally, you may provide updates in the future to let us know how that tank and the heater are doing throughout the next several months. Again, thanks for sharing!

Absolutely ill give periodic updates. This mat is the same style, power and brand. However the one I have doesn't have temp control and is no longer in production. We bought it like 4 years ago

aqueon also makes a small 5w heater. I use it in my 3g, and it's perfect.
