Looking for pipe thread sealant that’s saltwater safe and will work with PVC and ABS. Any recommendations?

Teflon tape is for metal, the Oatey paste with Teflon that I referenced, as well as the Plasto Joint Stik can be used and works very well for sealing PVC and plastic threads.

Probably the best sealant is one that is designed for plastic pipe.

Many use the teflon thread tape and get away with it forever.
But there is always the danger of using too much AND at the same time over tightening it. The result can be a split fitting and water on the floor.
In my case it happened sometime during the night and when I got up at 4am to get ready for work there was about 60 gallons of saltwater on my kitchen, dining room, and living room floor.

Thanks again for all the info!! :)

I think what I’m going to do is use thread sealant on the DT plumbing and experiment with silicone on the sump plumbing in the basement. I’m not 100% sold on silicone yet.

After watching this video I have a few questions.

GE silicone 1 seems to be popular on this forum. Is this the silicone you guys like to use as a thread sealant or do you use a different brand?

How well does silicone stick to PVC? Do some brands stick better than others?

I’m thinking the better it sticks the better it will hold up over time. My only concern would be if it sticks to well will you be able to get it apart again in the future? What do you guys think?
