I just purchased a Yellow Watchmen Goby and would like to pair with a shrimp. Is it as easy as ordering a shrimp and popping it in the tank...VOILA they love each other? What if they don't pair, do you keep buying more shrimp until it happens?

Thoughts/experiences?

We’re getting a pair this weekend. I’ll let you know how it goes. lol

What size tank? Most of the time they’ll find each other no problem. I have a Yasha goby that I got a shrimp for, we used a rigid tube to slide him down to where the goby was and they bonded just fine.

Attempt to acclimate them together and net them together, so they can recognize eachother. Place them in an open area far away from rocks and it should be good. If this doesn't work, they will likely find eachother soon enough and pair up.

I had my shrimp for some time before my goby. When I got my little guy, once he heard the popping of the shrimp he investigated. It was that same day they paired up and now they destroy my happy little tank together. So cute.

Try to add the shrimp to where you know the goby is. It’s not always a sure thing but most of the time it is. Make sure to get a tiger pistol shrimp for a yellow, I was told you’ll have almost guaranteed pairing that way.

Excited!!! Thanks...

I've only had one pair but it was automatic. Bought them at the same time but they were in different tanks at the lfs and not paired. Now they are best friends.

I merged my goby with a maroon clown. He feeds the goby every day. No need for a clicking pistol shrimp.
