PISTOL SHRIMP NOT MOVING

All right new issue… this time it’s the pistol shrimp. This morning he was in one spot not moving, not in a cave. No antenna twitching or little legs under his belly moving. Nothing. That’s at 6am. Today at 6pm, I get home from work. He’s in the same spot. I kinda probe him to see if he’ll move. Nothing. What is happening??? I know big changes in environment can cause pistol shrimp death. Is changing the aquascaping that huge of a change for my little guy to potentially kill him?? He’s been eating fine. He was lively yesterday. Is he molting?? And no, this is not his molt. His molts are always clear and have no antennas.
Any ideas?? I really hope my little guy is ok….

i mean he just looks normal. I think his eyes are a bit clouded so maybe he is molting?? Or they are closed. I’ll take a pic soon.

any idea what might cause him to die during molt? He’s has no issues before. Do you think too much stress from changing the aquascaping causing his caves to change?

This morning I did, no movement. This evening, I tried again. Barelyyyyyyyyyy barely any movement in his tummy, like he just kinda bent over some more. I’m so sad I hope poor Ernie is not dead, I know he’s just a shrimp but Bert (YWG) and Ernie were my first into the tank

Ok well now my next question… how long do I wait to determine that he is in fact dead. I guess how long is it safe for him to be in there without affecting the rest of the tank if he really is dead. He was alive just 24 hours ago.

Under normal circumstances, even when they are molting, they prefer places where they can hide and not be seen. Because they are completely defenseless during that period, they stay away from anything that might cause discomfort.
Could you try holding it in your hand just to be sure? If you can get it anyway, he's probably dead, he needs to escape.

It could be from lots of reasons. Bad water quality, old age, stress. You never know most of the time. This has happened to me multiple times with shrimp. They’re completely fine and then they just stop moving out of knowhere.

Shrimp has been removed. And I have no hermits. My tank has a yellow watchman goby, a purple firefish, and two clown fish (who don’t even cause probs the goby or firefish). I also have an xl turbo snail, and had two nassarius snails. I wonder if they are both dead, as I can’t locate the other one. Usually I can find the antenna (not sure what it’s really called) poking thru the sand but I can’t find that. Both the shrimp and the snail shell have been removed. Is it possible the shrimp are the snail? They were together in the same cave for quite some time. A few days.

Got my water tested. .5ppm of ammonia. 0 nitrite and 10ppm of nitrate. So it’s not the water that killed my shrimp. It was indeed stress. And likely the shrimp that killed my nassarius. I’m relieved, the other creatures are not in danger of the same fate. Adding some treatment to get rid of the ammonia and when it’s gone I shall get another shrimp. Any recommendations? Ernie was a tiger pistol.
