Hey so I have a silly question but bear with me!

I am finally adding a sump to my system and I have gathered almost everything I need. I have the plumbing almost done and went with black vinyl tubing. The return is 3/4” and the drain is 1”. I bought plastic clamps for the tubing and am trying to figure them out. I bought 1”, 3/4”, and even 1/2” clamps and none of them fit the 3/4” black vinyl tubing for the return. The 1/2” and 3/4” seem too small and the 1” is way too large. Is there something I am missing when it comes to these clamps and these vinyl hoses? The only way the 3/4” clamp will work and fit on the 3/4” tube is by me putting it on there directly below the beginning of the barn fittings. Is that where they are supposed to be? Thanks for any help

The clamp fits onto the tubing but will not close if it is over the barb portion of the fitting

That 3/4" tubing must be very thick walled, can you measure how thick once it's on the barbs? A quick search turned up some 5/8" ratchet clamps that might work.

The wall of tubing is 5mm thick. I am not sure how to measure it with the barbed fitting in it. I will order some 5/8” clamps and try those.

So I looked into the 5/8” vs 3/4” diameters and 3/4” tubing is actually wider so the 5/8” clamps will definitely not work. The 3/4” clamps are not fitting.

It’s like I need a size in between the 1” and 3/4”. This is so confusing. How to people use these plastic clamps with these vinyl hoses? I wouldn’t think I bought hoses that are too thick walled as I bought them from marine depot so they are supposed to be the ones for this purpose, am I right. This shouldn’t be this difficult lol

when picking out hose clamps you need to look at the diameter both opened and closed. some hardware stores like ace carry these. maybe you can bring a piece of hose with you to test.

The 1" and 3/4" is most likely your i.d or inner diameter. Just take a tape measure or ruler and measure the tube outside to outside at the cut end. That's what size clamp you will need also known as o.d. outer diameter.

Also if using hose barbs people usually step it up or adapt it to one size larger to make up for the extra restrictions the hose barbs add.

Thanks everyone! I ended up heating it again and trying the clamps and it did the trick! Had to crank it closed with a plier but all good.

I was debating about using the metal clamps because none of the connection are going to the submerged but I tried the heating and it ended up working so saves me another trip to the store! Thanks all [emoji3]

Silly me, I’d gone searching for 7/8” and didn’t even notice that the results were 5/8”. Even retyped 5/8” without thinking.
