I originally asked for a peacock but they said they could only get in an orange. So I went for it as my tank was ready. It’s arrived and I have no idea what type it is. If it’s even a smasher or spearer. I previously had a peacock which sadly passed. Despite my disappointment in it being tiny and not a peacock I still want to offer it the best care and feel I need to identify its type in order to do this. Please help x

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

All I know is that's definitely not a peacock 🙃

@Stomatopods17 may be able to help with a positive ID.

Oh so I’ve really been miss sold! TMC had it listed as a gono spp smasher which is where the fish shop got it from. Guessing the shells and crabs I have won’t be good food for it now :( I’m so sad but I can’t return it

Where are you located???? I’m very interested if you’d consider shipping him to me! Those are my favorites :)

Oh you’re not in the us… shoot.

P ciliata is pretty easy going, they’ll eat any scavenger food like krill or meaty pellets. They don’t chip rock so they’ll dig under structures and carry/drop rubble to make their burrows, but they’re often used to being on sand flats so they’ll just need sand and a structure to work with.

The only bad thing about them is often owners get disappointed to have this bright yellow mantis and then it turn into a like green in a molt or two. Very color polymorphic.

so she will only eat the river shrimp (often called glass shrimp) she ownt eat thawed raw squid, shrimp, mussels, cockles, or small thawed fish, neither cubes of mysis shrimp either. local fish shop said i need to find something other than the glass shrimp for it to eat, its also scared of the tongs and runs from them
