Trident: Alk, Cal, Mag
Redsea: Cal (to calibrate trident)
Hanna: Nitrate, Phosphate, Alk (to calibrate Trident)

Hanna for alk and magnesium and salinity

Aqua forest for:

Calcium, magnesium, phosphates, and nitrates

Salifert: alkalinity

Red sea for ph nitrates nitrites ammonia

I am fairly new to the hobby and after some tank issues in the past now I have the Hanna Marine Master multimeter for all of my tests.

Hanna For Alk, Nitrate, Phos, and Copper. Salifert for Cal and Mag.
Go Blue. Originally from the Ann Arbor area been living in Florida for 19 years. This is the first year. I haven’t been to a Michigan game because I just set up a 90 gallon aquarium and I was afraid to leave the neighbor responsible. Go blue. 〽️〽️〽️〽️〽️〽️〽️

I picked this kit up on a whim from Amazon. I wanted to have a second opinion to my Hanna Ca and Mg testers. This kit was really close to the numbers that the Hanna’s give me. Within 25ppm. I was surprised for the price. You do have to measure both Ca and Mg and do a little math, but it’s not hard.

Hanna for Alkalinity

A TDS probe on my RODI filter before and after the membrane. I forgot the brand, and I'm too lazy to go down and look.

Temperature with Inkbirds

Salinity with a BRS refractometer that I hate because it wont hold calibration for more than 1 minute.

Hanna checkers for:
Alk
Ca
Phos ulr
Nitrate

Apex:
Temp
Ph

RedSea refractometer

I am new to the hobby, and I see a lot of people go with Hanna and Salifert. I ended up taking a different route, and I am currently using the Red Sea Multi Test kits for these parameters:
  • Calcium
  • Magnesium
  • Alkalinity
  • Ammonia
  • Nitrate
  • Nitrite
  • PH
So far, so good. I have seen good and bad with everything, and I feel like you have to do some research and go with what's best for you. I am using an Agriculture Solutions Refractometer for testing my salinity.

API and Hanna. Also the Tropic Marine Hydrometer salinity tool is by far the best. Spot on and no calibration needed

Salinity: Hanna primarily with Refractometer and Hydrometer as backup checks occasionally

QT tank: Seachem Ammonia Alert, Hanna for Copper, Ammonia, and Nitrate

Display and Frag Tanks: Apex for Temp, pH, ORP, Ca, Mg, Alk, Hanna for nitrate and phosphate (probably will purchase Trident NP soon). Iodine by method posted on reef2reef. ICP monthly by FM. Monthly PAR measurements with apogee. Occasionally aquabiomics too.

Occasionally I run Hanna and or Salifert to check Alk, Ca, and Mg to double check Trident.

I also have RedSea test kits that I don’t use.

Tests that I wish were easily available:
DOC
dissolved oxygen (Neptune makes a probe but it’s super pricey)
Mn (I dose readily but don’t know outside ICP)
A method to see if any early warning on metal contamination from bad pump/wavemaker/etc. (I hope that I’m seeing by ICP but would be great to have a real time monitor)

Cheap refractometer for now (I know, I know)

Hanna
- Alkalinity dKH
- Phosphate ULR
- Nitrate HR
-Copper for hospital tank.

Salifert
- Calcium
- Magnesium
- Alkalinity just to compare to Hanna for fun but very rarely
- Have ammonia and ph, and nitrate too, just don't use it.

API For ammonia if I ever need it

I use Salifert for ALK, CAL and MAG. Hanna for NO3, P, Salinity and PO4. I have a Hanna CAL checker but I need to get some distilled water in order to use it.

Hanna Phosphorous ULR
Salifert Nitrate
Salifert Calcium (I never use though)
Salifert Alkalinity
Milwaukee digital refractometer
BRS handheld refractometer
I buy every brand out there. I then test my water and whichever ones gives me the results closest to the ones I want I keep and then throw the rest away
