I am finally at a point where I can get started working on my 180g again and I was hoping to get some input or critique on the plumbing I was intending on doing.

The tank is a 180g RR with dual overflows. I was going to do a herbie setup on them with two drains w/ gate valves for adjustments and 2 emergency drains dumping into the large middle refuge in the sump.

I am planning on doing a single line return up the back of the tank with black flex ball nozzles and a 2nd return in the future with a manifold so that I don't mess with the pressure on the main return and the herbie system.

Any issues with this setup that I may run into?

What return pump are you going to be running and what is your target turnover (or flow rate) for the return?

I was planning for about 8 to 10x turnover. Right now I have a DC-12000 which max is 3k gph I believe. I do plan on getting a newer pump though, which was why I was trying to determine plumbing design so I can get pipe lengths, elbows etc to get a rough idea on head height.

IMO, valves in the return is a bad idea, especially when every drain has it (no emergency drain).

He's doing a Herbie style drain. The emergency drains are drawn and do not have valves. Looks good to me.
