Yep. I dug a hole, placed a 5 gal bucket with large holes drilled in it. Filled the bucket with larger grave, filled around the bucket and the water drains with out ponding;).

As far as getting replacement water in the tank, that may require the old fashioned 5 gallon white jug method (one of my most hated parts of reef maintenance). My RO unit is in the unfinished part of the basement which is far from where the tank will be set up. Any better ideas?

Do you have a way to run some RO tubing from the unit to the sump? You can get a peristaltic pump that will push the water a long way, but you would need to run the tubing ....

It would be nice, but very difficult. What is a peristaltic pump?

Most of the dosing pumps in the hobby are peristaltic. Tubing is pinched by rollers as they rotate, essentially squeezing the water through the tube. They can push water against high head pressure. I use a couple of more rugged industrial peristaltic pumps made by Cole Parmer to run my ATO and calcium reactor. If you could find a way to run 3/8 RO tubing from your RO unit to the tank, a peristaltic pump would most likely serve your needs. If you can’t run the tubing, you’ll just be stuck with buckets ...
