Received new Crocea on 5/15, Crocea looks great.

The Green Maxima was not extended as fully yesterday, today the Green Maxima displayed a very pinched mantle.
I proceeded with a FW bath for 20 min. Initially when I placed the clams in the bath a notable number of Amphipods left the Green Maxima, not a good sign.
Both Maxima have been growing rapidly and showed no sign of PMD. Correlation and causation maybe, but I suspect the new clam brought a pathogen. It's my fault because I didn't quarantine the new introduction. First image yesterday healthy clams.

Bath. Look at all the new growth.

Post bath. Now it's just a wait and see.

Beautiful clams . Hoping for a full recovery.
Curious would a fresh water bath on new clams help as a preventative measure or is qt the only useful way to be sure and not introduce the pathogen that causes pmd?

PS what lighting are you running? I'm having trouble getting the colors to show on my new croceas even running heavy white.

Good question.

Tridacna tolerate FW baths really really well. I treated the Blue Maxima for slight PMD over a month ago, and the clam fully recovered post FW bath.
When I got the Crocea the water in the bag was probably over 85F, all day in a UPS truck in AZ will do that. Because I felt the Crocea was probably already stressed it wouldn't be a good idea at that time.
It's my mistake because I rushed introduction. Next time, it's acclimate to temp, go to holding tank, FW bath prior to display.
There are multiple causes of PMD, probably multiple different pathogens. Prophylactically a FW bath is probably good practice. We shall see though.

:-)
