PO4 - Hanna vs Mastertronic

So I have had my master tonic running for a month now. I have to say that I am really happy with it. I love my Alkatronic, wish I could get the dosetronic to connect. But that will be another thread. So, I run 2 tests a week on the Mastertronic. Been running .04 - .07. The higher end was after a reefroid feeding. I haven’t run a Hanna since I put the Mastertronic online. Tonight, I sent off my ICP-MS, so at the same time I pulled water for the ICP I also ran both tests. My Hanna came in at .13 and my Mastertronic .059. Does anyone have both and what has your results been?

Interesting observations. I have a Hanna but no other meters atm. Can't wait to see your ICP results. Let me predict that your results will not help resolve this dilemma.

I use the Hanna and it has been very accurate to what the ICP MS from moonshiners said. It helps the accuracy to filter the sediment out of the water being sent off or the ICP results will most likely be off. moonshiners has that prefilter ATI test kit does not.

I used Moonshinners. Also, I ran a NO3 with the Mastertronic for ICP comparison. I did not do a manual test as for NO3 I would defer to Salifert and all I do is look for color, I don’t compare it to the chart card. Historically I struggle with color definition. So, as long as I see color, I know I am not bottomed out.

So my testers said:
PO4 - Hanna .13, Mastertronic .059
NO3 - Master 9.25 Salifert color is around 10, but darker
DKH Trident 8.41 Alkatronic 8.81
CA - Trident 443
MAG - Trident 1383

Silicon is high as I had Ostreopsis a couple weeks prior and was still dosing silicates at night.

I am questioning the ICP No3. I sent my sample in on 1/15, and just got it back. It was severely delayed due to weather in the south, and the fact that the USPS sucks bung holes. You have to put that stabilizer in for the no3 test. So, I am very doubtful I had 30 no3. I have never had a test north of 10 manually.

Hmm....something is wrong here. They should not vary by this much. First - repeat the tests. If they still do not agree go to a third source as "referee."

My PO4 is nearly spot on to my Hanna now. But my No3 is way way way off. I just got some reference solution and was going to set my No3 to the reference solution.

If you are comparing No3 between Mastertronic and Salifert, I believe Mastertronic has a bigger stir magnet compared to the rest of the reagent vials due to thicker reagent not mixing well. The bigger stir magnet is for sale on BRS. Not sure if you bought the MT new or used, so it may not have been included. If this is your issue, bigger stir magnet will fix the discrepancy.

I purchased mine new about a year ago. Mine did not come with a different stirrer for No3. BRS is out of stock. I wonder if any of these would work? Also I am not using API in my Mastertronic, I use tropic Marin for No3. Does that matter?

So put the 20x8 in each of the no3 vials in the Mastertronic rack? And not in the black chamber where it reads the actual test?

Unless you received the bigger pill from Focustronic, you will have to purchase it from brs. It’s on their site.

I bought a bunch (BRS doesn’t sell them anymore) from Amazon. None of my NO3 Mastertronic vials have a different sized pill, all the same. Purchased new.
