Hey guys

I dont know, I received a frag and it seems that there is a candy cane and a pocillopora growing. So what coral will survive and which will die. Plus, what would you do with that frag?

The Candy Cane does not look so happy anymore…

If possible, split them appart ASAP. I wouldn’t try to grow coral that close to eachother especially two coral pieces that need different amounts of light and flow.

That is exactly my concern.
But I dont know how to split them since the pocillo is pretty invasive already.

Can I „break“ them apart? Especially the candy canes? Plus, I would need to re-glue them onto something, right?

If you have something like a saw that you can frag them with, then that’s the way to go. You could just wedge them into gaps in the rock, you don’t always have to glue them.

Both are very hardy and easy to break off by hand. If you don't want to touch it then grab any piece of silverware and you should be able to leverage the handle to get it off.
well, that means I can break it and then just stick it back in a hole. And the candy Id probably better stick in the sand with medium flow?

Maybe the candy breaks in 2 different parts. But seems not to be a problem?

Looks like the candy cane could be broken into 3 pieces if you want. Poci could be broken into more than that. I have kept them both in a variety of locations all over my tank so I wouldn't worry much about that part. I do like to start all new corals fairly lower in the tank though just to make sure they don't get too much light.

I would get some bone cutters. Im not sure what hardware stores you have there but here Lowe’s sells a pretty cheap pair. Candy cane skeleton isn’t very hard and it won’t hurt the coral to cut it. Several reefing companies sell them too. My candy canes have been snapped off and glued twice ans it hasn’t hurt them. The skeleton is just old dead coral. Only the tissue part is alive.

If it breaks into two parts you could even put them different places ans have two different colonies of candy canes once they grow out.

EDIT: CCs can adapt to basically any flow. My big white colony is in the middle of the tank. My green ones are 2” from the waters surface in roms of
