I use carbon 24/7 and change it every week. I keep softies among them zoas and palys and carbon effectively absorbs toxins.

Seahorses put such a heavy bioload on their tanks and they are sensitive to too much organic build up in the water column. I also skim heavily and grow macro algae for nutrient export.

I keep a bag of GAC in the sump right next to the the return pump intake 24/7 and change it every 4 weeks.

Are there any theories that using GAC causes problems?

GAC ran 24/7 causes issues with my SPS. Skin is lighter, less polyps on some, and general growth/health is affected. I only run it in emergencies for a few days if needed or to remove something I treated the tank with such as chemiclean.

@dbl -- Would it surprise you if my choice wasn't up there?

Not at all my friend, not at all.:p

But your "or so" qualifies for the "Only when needed" option. ;)

Does anyone run it on a timer? My reactor is noisy and I don't feel the need to run it 24/7, but I do like the way it clears up the water and keeps any odors away. Thinking of just running the reactor at night.

Now the million dollar question, what GAC does everyone use ?

Is BRS rox .8 the best out there ? It seems extremely pricey. Over the years I have just bought and whatever I could that was cheap, but I want to stay consistent now.

So what does everybody use?

Three months ago I removed all filters, carbon,Purigen. I do water changes weekly.RODI. I have had no algea and water parameters have stayed steady haven't had to adjust any thing before everything was all over the place with dinos, red algea and green algea. I can't pin point to anything other than removing these things. Corals and fish are doing better than before. My 75 gal. tank and fuge turned 2+ years old is the only thing that I can attribute it to. Every thing may fall apart but I will continue what I am doing until then.
