Me either, which is why I don’t have a pool of any kind. The costs creep up like crazy. Is there a waterpark in the area? For the price of an above-ground pool, you can score a good deal on a used jet-ski and trailer, and season passes to a waterpark until your kid is out of the house!

Edit: Jet-ski and Waterpark to be used separately....... not sure what you crazy northerners will try!

The cost becomes crazy for in ground pools. I think it’s around $20,000 for a basic cheap one. As far as a jet ski my son wouldn’t go anywhere near something like that. I tried to take him on bumper boats one time and he wasn’t having it. He has autism so the noise that would come from a jet ski would scare the crap out of him. I’ve gone to many water parks, lakes, ect. When you keep doing this stuff over and over it’s cheaper to buy a pool and besides I want to build a nice deck and bar back there. I also like swimming myself. We have one of the small intex pools but it’s only 2 ft deep.

As you think about the costs, don't forget to add in the HUGE stocking costs for corals and fish! I'll be following this build :D

The above ground in the last picture usually last about 10 years near me. Usually by then the kids are on to other things. We personally have a 35 year old Kayak, More money up front but last longer. We got ours used, we took it down and moved it to our house.

More or less that’s what I’m looking to do. Never heard of that brand I’ll have to check it out.

It's hard to justify that hefty price tag on an inground when you live in the Midwest and only use it for 3 months out of the year.

same here. I mean - lakes aren't heated and people swim all the time.

I have a couple friends that have something along those lines. Been up for years. One had a pump housing crack (didn’t drain for winter). Besides that they work pretty good.

How much salt do you need to fill that? All joking aside you could easily set up the $2100 pool and it will last last longer. My good friend had one and when the kids got older he took it down and rolled out sod.

I’ve been looking at the sam exact intex as well. A buddy of mine had it and I Thought it couldn’t be beat for the price. Plus like you said it can be set up and taken down easily if necessary.

You only need salt if your going to run a salt system. Salt systems make Cl anyway.

Remember also - at least in our neighborhood you have to have at least a 6 foot high fence - and it will bump up your insurance rates in some places as well.

Yeah I looked it up it says for an above ground pool you only need a fence if it’s less then 42” high. Says the fence has to be from 4 to 6 feet high. Was planning on gating off the deck anyway and I want to fence off the backyard at one point. I would think a deck a bit over 4ft high plus a 4 or 5 foot railing and locked gate would be enough to keep any small kid out. On top of that I would put a heavy cover on when not in use.

Check with your insurance agent also. Sometimes they are more demanding than local codes, maybe consider an umbrella policy. We have one, it cost very little and provides peace of mind.

Here in my neck of the woods pools are insanely expensive. Average pool nowadays around here is 100k

There is a really cool company, I believe out of Canada, called Mod pools. They build a really nice pool out of shipping containers. Still not cheap but have all the state of the art equipment tucked underneath like UV and ORP controllers

Had a client that had a quote for half a million to put a pool on his hillside. Think the Mod cost him 40k, not including the slab and running the gas and electrical

That’s why I like the intex pool easy to remove and I can do it myself. I won’t be digging a hole. Just going to have the area leveled.

Interesting. We have a 40 ft x 20 ft - my guess about 50K now.
