i’ve noticed this growing under my
rocks. Haven’t seen it on any direct coral besides on my zoa rock. Is this brown jelly disease?
If so what’s the best way to treat my tank i have a good amount of expensive coral. It started about a month ago hasn’t gotten worse but hasn’t gone away. Do a couple water changes. Please give advice to treat/ remove.

thanks reefers!

Valonia, invasive bubble algae that spreads quickly. Take it out without popping it or buy crabs that eat it (emeralds)

Ok are you positive it’s that. So what’s the best way to remove it. It’s on a lot of my rocks which have tons of coral glued on them. Just get a bunch of emerald crabs? Or what would your suggestion be.

Also does kill coral or anything super negative about it?

When i’ve researched valonia algae all that comes up is your typical green bubble algae. I don’t see any brown or white ish algae from looking that up.

In your last picture the green bubbles in the right upper corner are 100% valonia. If you are referring to the gray “balls” my guess is that they are some type of sponge :) pineapple sponge maybe?

Those are harmless sponges I’ve had identical ones for a long time. If it was bjd you would have dead corals in less than 24 hours. It’s always good to have cypro on hand just incase because you have to act fast.

I see sponges and in the last two pics bubble algae. Its an old wives tail about popping it. Popping will not cause it to spread. Just use a small diameter hose and suck it out while doing a small water change. Left unchecked it can spread rapidly. Not all sponges are benign but most are, if they start to spread on to corals try and peel them off.

I’ve lost 3 torches in the last week. I thinking it’s brown jelly.

Hey guys im NOT referring to the green bubble algae. I’m talking about the white / brown sponge cotton looking balls on the bottom the rocks. I took more photos this morning. Let me know what’s you guys think and how you i should treat. Stressing out here

Do you have pictures of them just before they died? When you took them out did they smell like the worst thing you have ever smelled? How long did it take from when you first noticed that they weren’t looking happy to being completely dead? There could be many other reasons for it but lets start here.

Here is a video of BJD

My experience is it kills very quickly..... in a matter of hours.

i have some random ones when they were all doing good besides the hellfire. i guess these photos are a great example of the progress as they die. But i notice the start to not fully extend and the tenicals look slim and not puffy. and than the next day majority of there Skelton is showing than the following morning it looks like the picture above i just posted of the torch. Yes i have noticed on the other ones when they are completly gone they smell pretty bad.

the large ones i had for about 2 years on the bottom rock and the green mouth joker. Others i recently got about a month ago. Never had issues with torches. Everything else in my tanks seems to be doing great.
