Hey guys, so I recently purchased a Valentini puffer and it has been doing great and being a model citizen in my tank. I have just noticed as of the last couple days it has these white bumps on its fins and I believe on the nose. I would love if someone could possible confirm if it is ich or some other parasite or disease?

Fish is lacking dots on the body but I see dots on fins which may be Lymphocystis which is viral but Not yet ruling out ich. Ich shows up as dots and multiplies each 24 hours. See if they are the same or more dots. if more, may be ich.

Thank you for the informative response! I’ll be keeping a close eye on it and see if the spots multiple and/or form on the body! If per say it was ich, would best course of action be quarantine and copper?

Yes , quarantine with coppersafe at 2.25 ppm for 30 days

The number of spots on the fins does point strongly to ich, Cryptocaryon. Watch the location of these spots from one photo to another taken later on - if the spots change location and change in number day to day, that's more likely ich. If the spots stay in the same location and grow in size, that's more likely Lymphocystis. Be aware that a fish can have both issues at the same time. Watch for spots developing on other fish - that would confirm ich.

Ok so here’s my update. The first 2 pics taken under white light are from yesterday. The last pic under blue light is today. I noticed yesterday it had some spots above its eye aswell. Today the spots look like they got bigger, but also not as many.

Im not sold on ich but spots getting larger may be protozoan and treating with coppersafe as discussed may be warranted.

As I mentioned, the spots coming and going every day or so is a clearer sign that this is ich.

I would begin to develop a treatment plan and be ready to implement it before this weekend.

Thank you! I have no copper based medication on hand nor does my LFS. Will be ordering from Amazon prime and hopefully arrives in time
Other option is hyposalinity (1.009)

I was reading into that earlier, and if this progresses more before the coppersafe arrives, I will be doing the hyposalinity !

If you haven’t seen it (and for others readings this thread) here is a link to hyposalinity instructions:

My valentini had some form of parasite on it that killed all the other fish, ich probably, he was the only one that survived, luckily he was my favorite fish. He even survived the 37 degree Celsius water that killed my fish and corals.
