Not a great picture, I know. My starry blenny has been flashing, nipping at its own tail, and hiding for the past 2-3 weeks. He has been eating well still though. I know these are all telltale signs of ich or some other parasite/disease, but his coloration makes it very hard for me to tell. I also have 2 ocellaris clowns and a Firefish in the tank, and all of them look and act perfectly fine and healthy. All my fish were supposedly quarantined by my lfs, but now I’m kicking myself for not doing my own qt. Im hoping maybe someone could provide a little more input before I tear my tank apart trying to catch all my fish for qt.
For reference, I’ve had all the fish around 3 months with no previous issues or signs of disease or parasites. The tank is about 5 months old. Ammonia is 0, nitrite is 0, nitrate is 10, phosphate is 0.02.

This fish is distant in the picture making it difficult to depict dots. Can you post video using no blue, but rather bright white light intensity?

He’s breathing rapidly, and when he comes out of hiding to feed, he will flash against the sand and rocks and nip at his own tail. He’s completely stopped eating algae off the rocks and glass like he used to, but he still eats a mix of nori and algae wafers. Of course he’s not going to cooperate when I’m trying to get a video lol. I’ll see if I can get a video of him while he’s out and feeding.

This may be a sign of flukes and you can safely run PraziPro at 85% of recommended dosage and allow it to work for 8 days, change water and apply one more application lasting 8 days and do add an air stone as Prazi lowers both oxygen and appetite

I’ll give that a shot, thank you so much! Do you mean a 20% water change or should I do more at the end of the 8 days?

This species is very difficult to diagnose for ich because of their normal body spots. I can’t see any spots that are definitely ich.

The flashing and tail biting are more a sign of flukes. That can be treated with praziquantel. I wrote up instructions for that here:

Thank you so much! That definitely clarifies the questions I had about products like prazipro and the likes.
