ProStar Rimless V2 60 Aquarium - Big Tiny

Nice choice on the res. That would be my second choice over the IM... beause TBH I would scratch the heck out of acrylic just by looking at it.
As a point of reference I have a brand new in box Eshopps fuge cube sump on Offer up for $100 less than the lowest purchase retail. I have it listed @ $250 someone offered me $100. I told him it it was that cheap I would buy 10, but no, you are not even close. he replied I shouldn’t be insulted... really?
Yes I didn’t want anything clear and my LFS guy is awesome and gave me 10 options. This one was the prettiest and most cost effective. Plus filling it is easy peasy. I still do wish it was in the sump but beggars can’t be choosers. With the roomier sump, the possibilities are endless. I was able to add more rock in case I need to banish anything into sump hell.

Yes, I hate it! I sold an overhang meant for 35 gallon tanks for half the price in store (brand new never used still had the plastic on it) and the lady held up traffic and started haggling over $5. Said she didn’t have exact change..I for sure know the bank gives 100, 50, 20, 10 and 5. And then today I listed a canister filter for $90 usually $275..willing to go down price but the guy shows up to buy my tank and stand, doesn’t haggle, then suddenly haggles on the canister and offers me $55..could’ve done it for $75 but no. I am truly not good at confrontation and just wanted it out of the garage. Then tells me they sell secondhand aquarium stuff. I’m over here thinking he’d just use it as a display. I thought I was helping out a local fish store 🫠 not resellers. I still have 3 AI lights to sell and they are listed at $200 for all 3 (trying to help local reefers out because I know the feeling of expensive equipments). Can’t wait to see who’s going to try haggle the price down on that 😭

Which AI lights... I might be interested... LOL

Not many updates beside I finally used reef cement hold the rocks into place because…I am getting a tuxedo urchin! Happy news I am so excited been wanting to get one. I also don’t want it toppling over any rock! Hopefully what I put down is enough but I can always add more if needed.

Your Prostar 60 looks great, I'm considering upgrading to the AI Axis 90 and adding a Nero 3 to my Prostar 60. Are you happy with the Axis? Also how much flow are you running on the return, and with the wave pumps?

Hi! If I’m being honest the flow seems too much and too little. I would prefer to get another Nero 3 and replace the orbit 4 but I need to reposition everything. This is currently the flow I’m using. I’m still tweaking everything as the days go by. Axis works great! I got all these in the bundle when I bought it secondhand and can’t complain. I’ve been in the AI sphere but always a learning curve

I understand the too much flow, currently my return is on its lowest setting and is 640gph before calculating in the reduction of headpressure and pipe elbows. The powerhead Jebao SCP-70 similar to the Oribit 4 does cause alot of turbulence even on the first two settings. I was actually looking at switching to the nero and axis and noticed it on your build thread. Main reason I'm looking directly at them they are now compatible with the Mobius app which I use for the Radion light control. Read some negatives to the Axis 90 which caused some hesitation on my side. Do you you believe the Axis 40 would be enough since you are only running at 35%?

Since Axis 40 is meant up to 40 gallons I don’t see why not. I am not sure why the previous owner got axis 90 but it works for what I have. Personally I love Sicca pumps so if this ever gives out I can switch over to that one. What negatives have you read?

The reviews of BRS and several other sites talk about having to break them down often or them going dead before year old. But I’m sure it’s like anything there will always be a few bad reviews. I really like the idea of having everything linked into one app and have never had any issues with AI products.

Oh I wasn’t aware. I know AI products are finicky as someone who used their lights. I have no idea how old the pump is so hoping to get at least a year or two but good to have a backup option. It is nice to be able to handle everything from the app as well!

Thanks for all the info, I order one so will be here in a few days 👏. I ran Hyrda 32s for 4 years on another tank and never an issue, AI has been good to me. I’ll stay tuned in with your build being so similar, hope to have my new build thread up in the next coming weeks as I just started this tank 3 weeks ago.

I think we started our builds at similar times then!

Had my first heart attack today. Not sure what happened but my tank overflowed 🫠 my husband and his friend scrambled to help me and I had to shut everything off. Not sure what happened, maybe I closed off the pipe under my sump while fidgeting with it. In the chaos, I did notice one of my favorite corals behaved heavily damaged for an unknown reason. Lots of negatives have been happening this week so hoping next week good things come my way. With the floors becoming further damaged (they will be replaced anyways) at least they are propelling my desire to continue redoing our home

Happy news! Went back to my LFS to test my water on why my blue tuxedo urchin died. Long story short: must have been on its way out. Water tested fine and all other inverts are fine. They gave me another one (purple urchin) and I purchased a turbo as well. The urchin looks much better and he’s got his little shell hat. Doing acclimation and so excited. My LFS is the best!

Earl the urchin is doing amazing and is passing his first 24 hours. I am hoping he will grow big and strong since he is still a juvenile. So far he’s stuck to one area of my rock and snacked on the hair algae. He’s got a feast ahead of him and he doesn’t even know it yet. Added more reef cement just in case he decides he wants to rearrange. Mexica turbo gave up and took a nap. Barely made a dent but I don’t blame him. Tank is looking better than ever.

Earl the urchin is doing phenomenal. Even during the day he’s grazing which catches me off guard. He’s got a lot to eat so letting him do his thing. Also peep my little wrasse. Goofy little thing.

Mini update: as of now, tank has pineapple sponges forming. Usually, this means coraline is not too far behind (at least that is what happened in my first ever tank). Hoping to have some coraline growth. Besides that, bought new filters since TDS creeped up to 1 and my hair algae has become ridiculously annoying. Earl and the turbo are trying their best to eat it all but it’s growing fast. Trying not to be patient. Not much else to report. Might be a bit before I add more coral as I am planning to make my crested gecko a new vivarium. Peep the baby who’s turning 4 this year

Not much to update. Doing maintenance cleaning and teaching the husband how to do it in case I can’t. He tapped out halfway through; too much info I guess

Personal life got the best of me but things are looking on the up and up. With time it seems the tank is maturing. My corals are reproducing, slowly but surely. I’ve recovered a few from the dead in the past few months. Everyone is doing well. I’m starting to see coraline which I love

Great story for a great tank!
