I don't have experience with Nanos, but here is my guess.
Pros: surface skimming (it helps keeps the nasty film down that can accumulate on top of your water), waste removal, aeration, and less need for water changes.
Cons: All of this can be done with a properly positioned powerhead and regular water changes (1-2 gallon water changes a week depending on bioload).
Million dollar answer. I ran a 5g on my desk for two years with a hob Aqua. Clear and $14 hob fuge. The fuge was powered by an air pump.
Lol. Sorry. A five gallon tank with an aquaclear filter. A hang on back refugium with chato. Ato top off and heater. A small compact fluorescent and an LED strip.
All the basics. A skimmer is one method of nutrient reduction. So is mechanical filtration the aquaclear and the chato removes the exess nutrients.
Temp and salinity are the biggest challenge.
I did a DIY fan with temp sensor for the main cooling.
The key is not over feeding but feed well so the fish is healthy.
Dang sounds like u have this things down lol I have a year with my tank and I still feel like a beginner so if u were me would u waste money on one
On what a skimmer for a nano? What size ? And fwiw I hated every little skimmer I ever tried.
And trust me I screwed up a lot of stuff too.
Just don't get confused by the rabbit beans about what you need. If I had everything everyone told Me I need ed I wouldn't be able to afford food for the kids.
Sorry for ditching the thread yesterday. I have an early bedtime :) To answer your question, no I would not put a skimmer on a six gallon nano. There are so many other things you can spend your money on that to me it's honestly a waste.I just want my water crystal clear what do u suggest
