Most of you will likely roll your eyes at this and stuff, but with the hobby slowing down in both retail and online sales, it is a good idea not to have any custom or one-off orders unless you are sure that the company can survive a downturn. Those of us who have been around through a few hobby downturns have seen many seemingly good companies go bankrupt leaving customers who already paid in the wake.

- Do not pay in advance - good companies are OK with this and can afford to float materials that they intend to deliver on
- If you buy closeouts from a company going under, get extra parts too like extra pumps for reactors
- Negotiate even a lower price since there will be no warranty
