Public Service Announcement...

PLEASE people, please put your vehicle in park BEFORE exiting!!

So, a couple hours ago, I stepped outside to smoke. Immediately, I hear the most awful screaming. I look up the hill, behind out home, to see a lady pinned beneath her mini-van. I run up the hill, as another neighbor happens to be driving by. Neither of us can recall how we got her out from under her vehicle, but we did. As soon as we get her out, her leg is swollen to twice it's normal size. Her foot is shoeless and her shoe is UNDER her front tire! We try to get her to remain still, as I called 911. She refuses, telling us she's okay and not to call for help. Too late, I'm already on the phone. She struggles to stand and hobbles into her home. Immediately, other residents of her home come outside. They hadn't heard her screaming so didn't even know what was going on until she went inside. As soon as they realize I'm on the phone with 911, they all start freaking out, asking "you aren't calling the cops are you?!" Hmmm, illegal activity going on in the home??

Fire department calls me back, about 15 minutes later..."We're at 426 W. Cora Ct. and can't find you." I respond with, "that's because I told you 1426 W. Cora Ct." They insist that I told them "426" and actually put me on hold to review the 911 call. The whole time I'm on hold, I'm thinking to myself "I sure hope while you're reviewing the 911 call that you're also driving west!" They come back on the line, apologizing...ugh! I really don't care, just GET HERE!

End of story, ambulance, fire truck and police cruiser show up, all at the same time. I warn the police officer that the residents were worried about the possible presence of law enforcement. The medical responders check her out, explain to her that she definitely needs medical attention, WHICH SHE REFUSES! As the police cruiser drives off, I notice another of the residents in the back seat...lol

The lady was spinning her tires, on an icy grade, exited the vehicle to see why she couldn't get traction (completely bald tires and icy roads...DUH!) and the vehicle rolled backwards. She was knocked down by the open drivers door and pinned, between the vehicle and curb. When I arrived, the front right tire was still slowly spinning, the vehicle was still in drive.

Maybe she figured her foot, under the left tire, would give the vehicle enough traction...she was wrong.

Oh the intelligence of people some days just never ceases to amaze me! You did the right thing as I would have done the same.

Wow... I have typed 6 different comments so far and deleted them all because I realized they sounded mean. Then after deleting them I realize in the end they are true. Oh well .

Sometimes the truth hurts...lol So does being run over by your own vehicle, ummmm, due to one's own stupidity...
