Pumping Question

Hey folks still getting my tank pumped I have two questions 1) On over flow pumping going to the sump I heard its best to use 45 as opposed to 90 what's the disadvantage of using 90 if there is one? 2) I have herbie style overflow should these get pvc cement too or will it be fine being pushed in or plumbers tape?

90s restrict flow more than a 45 which helps to regain your full syphon after an interruption in power, that's why 45s are better.
In the picture, the fittings in the overflow box are fine just pushed into the bulkhead. If plumbing is not submerged or is out of water it should be glued.

Herbie overflow is a 2 pipe system.
You have a Bean Animal overflow using 3 pipes.
No need to glue inside the box.

Let’s clear something up: for a JOG 2 45s are better than 2 90s. That’s the only time it applies. Using SWEEP 90s is better than a regular 90 because the gradual direction change causes less back pressure. However, replacing one fitting with two fittings on say a corner does NOT reduce friction losses. And 2 45s don’t make a sweep 90. Use the minimum number of fittings and straight runs for the best flow.

I see your point, but I think the OP was asking about using a 45 instead of a 90. Not so much 2 45s to make a 90 instead of a 90.
