I don't know how I didn't see these until this morning, but I have some purple clove polyps that are covering some of my rocks. About a year ago, I got a montipora frag that ended up having some of these growing on it's underside and they started to spread. I knew I didn't want these pests in my tank, so I threw out the montipora other than a small clean frag and chiseled away the rock and got rid of the pieces that had the clove polyps on it. Well it looks like I missed some and only just noticed today, and I discovered them on 2 different pillars. I do have my rocks in acrylic rods and can pull them out, but there is also some SPS frags that have encrusted on these rocks. What would you do? I've heard some reefers just let them spread in their tank and live with it while others dona complete tank teardown. Some add urchins and others use chemicals. Feeling really bummed about this and looking for advice.

Sorry that happened, I know the feeling, I had to do a complete rock swap once because of them. Since it sounds like you can remove the only 2 rocks they are on, I would do it. It sucks, but frag the corals. IME those cloves will spread. Good luck

This is what I'm leaning towards. When I first saw it this morning, I was ticked but knew that I could remove the rock pretty easily since it's the top of a pillar and frag my sps. Then looking closer is when I saw they were on another pillar and this is a large flat shelf piece which I can probably break off the large chunk. As much as I stare at my tank, I can't believe I didn't catch it sooner, but they do blend in with the coralline. Will try and get photos

How many are there ? I'm wondering if they would die if covered in kalk paste? Of course that would only work if there weren't a bunch of them.
I would say on the 2 rocks I see them on the are covering about 5-6" square area. Will try and get some photos.

Marked the two rocks with the red dots. The one on the left is the middle of the left pillar and is one big flat piece. The red lined areas are what clove polyps I can see. Pretty large areas to not notice. I know they grow fast but not overnight fast, right? I did change change out 2 of my t5 bulbs and added more white lighting to my LED, so maybe that has caused the quick growth.

I’d get at them now, don’t let them spread.

I had to kill one rock. But then reconditioned it and put it back in.

Not sure if you can do that, but, ends them on the rock for sure.

Ok, I see pics now.

I’d work systematically on them using either F-Aptasia or maybe two part expoxy gum.

Start at top and do an inch. F-Aptasia encapsulates what you squirt it on and turns hard. In a few days, break off the piece.

Same with expoxy gum, but I’d just leave that on them….maybe in the future, pull that off.

Good luck.

Since I had a bottle of F-aiptasia giving it a try as my attack on these pests. Seeing how effective it is before I get use it in areas right next to my coral.
