So has anyone ever used PVC pipe and zip ties to attach rock in a reef aquascape? My wife found some DIY ideas online but I was curious how the zip ties would hold up over time in the reef aquarium.

Makes sense. I'm not overly worried about the PVC failing as I'll be using schedule 40 pipe and it "should" be completely hidden by the rock work.

Yeah zip ties are always a little sketchy as they have a bad habit of snapping at the worst time , PVC is thick enough and won't degrade to that point.

Neat trick you can use on it though is to use the krylon plastics spray to color it.
