It's been a long time since I've added anything live to my tank. But tuffs of green hair algae have taken over my rocks and I need to add a clean up crew in there (they've died off months ago and I never added more in).

I was just curious - can I get a bunch of clean up crew crabs and shrimps - add them to a 5 gallon bucket with an air hose, heater, and maybe a rock with some of the algae (that I don't plan to put back into the DT) and let them sit in it for the quarantine period? Any tomonts on the shells would hatch as trophonts and have no fish to host on and die off right? Purpose would be to just let any ich life cycle finish off if they are in fact on the crabs and shrimps?

I was planning on doing the TTM with buckets, but thought since they're not fish - the ich cycle would end anyways if it can't find a host fish? Maybe change out the water every few days to keep ammonia levels low - but not every 72hrs for two weeks?

Thoughts?

Sounds good to me, as long as they're in quarantine long enough to manage ich. Referring from the ich sticky, that't ~18 days for regular strains of ich, but one strain can go for 76 days. I don't see a need to TTM them unless you want to do so

HOW MUCH DOES A FISH’S FEEDING REQUIREMENTS AFFECT YOUR STOCKING DECISIONS?
