I have been reading all about the quarantine tanks and I need to clarify a few things as I am getting a few different answers. We currently have a RedSea Reefer 250, which is approx. 55 gallons. We currently have no fish in the tank as we were not smart and lost all to the brook! My questions:
1. What is the minimum size tank I can do? Considering my tank size and that I will not be having any large fish.
2. When I set it up I will be adding the bacteria to it, so I will need to add a fish shortly after. Should that fish be the fish I am quarantining to eventually add to my display tank?

If fish is small then a 10 gallon will be good enough for qt. I would qt even the first fish. But check parameters before putting the fish in.

1.You can use a 10 gallon tank depending on how many fish you plan on running through QT at one time. If your wanting to run Tank Transfer Method then you would need two 10 gallon tanks. It's quicker and doesn't use copper - my preferred method of QT.

2. You wont be using a fish to cycle your QT exactly. You can get a fish and put it in QT, but you need to be prepared to do water changes every other day or so to keep the ammonia down to nothing. If you want to cycle the tank first before putting any fish in your QT then you can use the raw shrimp method or just dose pure ammonia to the tank.

10 gallon for TTM will be ok for more than one fish. I've done 3 at a time a couple of times without any problem.

These 3 were pretty good size and didn't have any problems.
