Do a little searching on this site .. you will find TONS of resources and articles... No use in even throwing a link in here with a specific thread or article as there are that many to read. It's not to complicated at all, although for the beginner it does seem like a lot -- we've all been there before

Just the tank, heater, something for flow (powerhead or HOB filter) and some PVC/decorations for the fish to hide in, basically

The size of the QT tank really depends on what you intend to house in it, larger fish will need a bigger tank while corals and smaller fish can make do with a smaller tank. QT tanks often end up as hospital tanks so keep it simple with things you can disinfect or sterilize between uses much like The_Stig pointed out.

I decided to do a cycle on my QT tank.. If I have to sue meds I don't want to have to worry about the water changed and getting the meds back up to scale.

Depending on the size, some of the best QT/HT setups are during the sales at deathco. I got my 10G with heater, filter, hood and net for $30. Same price as a cheap fish basically well worth the investment.

No me, if I did it would end up being another display or frag tank. I keep everything for the QT/hospital tank together in one box so I can have it set up and running in 30 minutes or less when I need it.

Do you just make a water change in your display and use the old water for your QT?

No, I usually make up fresh saltwater. I use an AquaClear HOB filter on the QT so I keep a new filter sponge in my sump at all times to jump start the bacteria for the QT. I use the sponge once then throw it away and add a new one to my sump so I do not chance adding any diseases of bad stuff to the reef.

You'll find folks who set up equipment-intensive QT tank and folks who take the simple route. Some of it depends upon the philosophy you subscribe to for what should take place during QT.

We tend to go with a simple setup. They're easy to bring online when needed and easy to maintain during the QT process. Here's a breakdown of what's needed to make sure your new specimen is ready for your display: The Quarantine Tank: a Crucial Part of Aquarium Success
