i just thought that i would start a thread sharing my reef experience with a queen angelfish. First off i got him about 3 months ago for around 150$ and he was about 3 inches. i have a 90 gallon and yes some of you may think this is to small but when he gets to big i have a friend with a 500 gallon tank that will take him in. Along with the angelfish i have a Blue tang, Yellow tang, paired snowflake clowns, 3 yellow tail damsels, coral banded shrimp, about 75 hermits, tiger serpent star. he doesnt bother any of my fish. he just minds his own business. As far as coral goes i have a orange mushroom, about 6 blueberry mushrooms, 2 ricordias, alot of green star polyps, alot of kenya trees, big leather finger coral, 4 heads of frogspawn, 7 heads of zoas that randomly appeared, chunk of polyps and my baby which is about a 8 inch diameter toadstool mushroom. He doesnt pick on any of my coral at all. all he does is go to the bottom of the rock they are attached to and eat the algae off. The picture that i will be attaching is before i got the yellow and blue tang. But my point here is for people that think they cant have a queen angel in a reef its just the type of temperment your angel has and what he has a nick for eating off of. If you have a angel or fish that is considered not reef safe just chime in and id love to see your pics

Try some acans in there. lol. Angels are usually not bad while they are small. I tried several times, but I won't try again. Good luck with the queen, as it gets bigger time will tell.

Congrats on a beautiful fish!

I feel most people who complain about angels are adding them to tanks with frags, which will hardly ever work. Large mature colonies can handle a nip here and there, while frags cannot. Of course, if you intend to keep any potential pickers you need to go in knowing that your fishes will determine what corals you can and cannot keep :thumb:

Well-said and couldn't agree more...

yes that is a great way of putting it. ive added a few such as the blueberry mushrooms but he doesnt even take a second look at them! i may try to add a few frags here and there. inexpensive ones to start out and see how he does then ill go from there and hopefully he leaves them alone
