Just got a yellow longnose butterfly, cream yellow tail angel they are about 3 to 4 inches so I put them in a 10 gallon.

This will be my first time using copper mainly because ive only had eels and groupers and have only ever encountered flukes, but now i want to cover all grounds.

Just got them today and was wondering if I should only start copper once I get them feeding?

Can I use praziquantel and metronidazole with copper? (I use pure praziquantel powder)

I've heard that the yellow longnose is quite picky with its foods, would love brine shrimp be enough to start it's feeding? I also ordered some live grindal worms just to make sure, so far he has been picking on the rocks.

What copper product are you going to use?

I try to avoid mixing copper with other medications - it makes things more difficult to manage and there can be unknown interactions.

Cream angels often arrive with Neobendenia flukes. LN butterflies shouldn't be all that difficult to get to feed, use frozen or live brine shrimp to start, then diced up mysid shrimp.

Since they often arrive in flukes should I treat praziquantel first?

The copper I'll be using is coppersafe.

Should I start the medications tomorrow since they just arrived today?

You could give them one dose of prazi to buy some time and then dose the coppersafe at 2.25 ppm for 30 days, and then run 3x prazi at the end.

If your QT is stable with a good bio filter, you could run coppersafe and prazi together.

I only started the qt today with a bunch of sponges and rocks from an established tank, would that be ok? Though I'll likely have to remove the rocks due to them sucking in copper.

Looks like I'll be better off buying some time with the prazi instead.

Really appreciate the guidance!

The filter sponges are fine to use, but the rock will have the same issue of possibly absorbing copper. As long as you are aware of that, and don't use that rock later on in a tank with invertebrates, that would be o.k.

Just the first day and i already see a few white spots on the smoke angel.

Fed the smoke angel with a clam on a half shell yesterday, but the longnose hasn't eaten yet, i believe that my live brine shrimp will be hatching tonight, so should I wait till the longnose eats? atleast till tonight?

Newly hatched brine may be too small - don’t flood the tank with it, too many in the water makes it hard for a fish to focus on any one shrimp.
If you can’t get live adult brine, try frozen adult brine.

I am unfortunately having difficulties trying to get either of them, so i basically have no choice other than relying on the new fry's or waiting for the grindal worms.

Currently dosed the copper with about 5 doses measuring about every hour to make sure that I am just a little above 2 ppm.

How much copper can rocks absorb? i have about i believe 2 or 3 pounds of rocks in there

Sorry, I can’t forecast the rock absorption rate. Best to test daily for a bit to get a handle on the rate, but weekly testing will likely allow you to keep up with it.
