We have been thinking of ways to build more community between the members of R2R and the reefing community as a whole. One thing that we are thinking about is maybe setting up some R2R Member meet ups and call it a R2Reef & Meet!

The basic idea is to have a host home or location in various parts of the world where members can meet one another on a certain day, get free R2R swag, win prizes, eat and talk reefs for a couple hours.

Does this sound like something that would interest you if it were close to you?

How close would it need to be?

Thanks!

I love the idea. Anything within a couple of hours drive would be good for me.
A long time ago I was on another forum and a bunch of us took a trip and met at the Baltimore Aquarium. If someone has contact at an aquarium you could try to do the same thing. It was a bit difficult to get people to travel for a weekend but those of us that went had a great time.

Be nice if it was within driving distance of Alabama.

Seems like we get nothing here.

Great idea! We could have it.......

LFS's, Aquariums, a Caribbean cruise, or just a flash mob, the possibilities are endless. I'm probably stuck home doing a water change myself, but if the event is close enough I 'd skip the tank duties and hang with R2R reefers.

I like this idea. I also think something like an expo would produce better turnout -- something that does cost money and requires an RSVP so people can plan around an exact date and commit to going. Then we can have a large enough space to get all the dedicated people that want to go give them all a chance to mingle, all while giving vendors and sponsors a medium as well! I know this has been done before (reefapalooza) but this would be more focused on the R2R community meeting up; almost like an exclusive.

Saltwater reef keeping is a very expensive hobby; I'm sure most people would be willing to pay a decent bit for reservations and travel for a unique event like this.

Would be great networking! I like giving frags away for really low prices/ free to new friends and beginners near me.

I grew up in Dana Point/Laguna Beach. Live in CO now but actively working on my strategy to get back there. I surfed Salt Creek, T street, Brooks, and Uppers almost every day :)

Nice! I grew up in Laguna Beach. LBHS grad. I surf mainly in SC now but in HS I was a regular at brooks and creek. Pretty crazy small world. I try to get out 3-4 times a week.

And you immediately rule out me being able to attend. I have so many medical bills/ongoing costs that I can't afford to travel AND pay to attend events like this. I have to budget very strictly to be able to afford to reef.

There are already paid things I can't attend. Why can't we make the vendors pay for it? That's what this will turn into is just another paid advertising event.

Sorry, but, I am being honest here. And I am sure there is a bunch of people who feel the same and won't speak up.
