Inspired by the pups thread, and a brief conversation with @ktfloyd01 yesterday, thought I would start a thread for parrots. Here are my seven feathered children.

1st picture - Carter cockatiel. Unknown age. Found 4 years ago in a parking garage.

2nd picture - Collin cockatiel. About 3 years old, purchased from a Petco.

3rd picture - Peaches moluccan cockatoo. 23 years old. Adopted from Feathered Sanctuary in 2016.

4th picture - Buddy goffins cockatoo. Believed to be late 40s. Adopted from second chance bird rescue in 2012.

5th picture - Shablee moluccan cockatoo. 23 years old. Adopted from second chance bird rescue in 2012.

6th picture - Zazu shamrock macaw. 22 years old. Adopted from second chance bird rescue in 2012.

7th picture - Mr. Bird catalina macaw. Adopted from second chance bird rescue in 2013.

@ktfloyd01 @BirdFish5000 wow a parrot thread here on my favorite reefing site !!!! We had parakeets when I was a kid and I’ve always wanted to get into parrots. Was researching them back last winter and spring and was on a parrot website, bought a cage, and bought some supplies. That’s all the further I got. The cage is still unassembled in the box. Glad I found you guys. Following both of you !!!!

It definitely is a commitment. It's a two-year-old that never grows up and leaves the house. Screams for your attention, eats your furniture instead of all the hundred-dollar wood toys that are in their cage. It's worrying about what is going to happen to them once you are gone.

But, they can be the most fun, loving, intelligent creatures around.

Here’s the box. 52 inch inch flight cage. One of these nights I can’t sleep I’ll put it together and it will light a flame underneath my rear to get on with the bird journey.

Are some of the birds in the pictures of this thread molting and can that be helped?

I had a couple of lovebirds for a few months but had to give them up because I was forced to move and couldn’t take them with me. However I heard lovebirds are a difficult species and I’m thinking parakeets. Do females get egg bound?

No, most are chronic feather pickers from histories of neglect and abuse. Sadly common in captive birds as human households can't meet their emotional needs. Think of feather plucking as similar to people that cut or burn themselves.

Any female bird can get egg bound, yes.

Awesome and beautiful birds here. Me and my wife went to this place in gatlinburg during our honeymoon and it was straight birds everywhere, a TON of them. There was this one particular African Grey that singled me out and made a beeline to me when I got near his perch. He allowed me to let him grip onto my hand and wouldn't leave me. I sat there and bonded with it for 2 hours maybe. It was so affectionate toward me and didn't want anything to do with my wife. I was devesated leaving it. I felt like that bird was meant for me lol. I'll never ever ever forget that bird.
