Looking to set up an IM 170 Int (60x30x24). What is the true spread of the Radion G6 Pro? Would 2 cover enough for Acros or would I need 3?

In my opinion, if you are thinking about the XR-15's, even 3 will not cover that tank alone without adding a supplement bar, etc. I did some testing on my tank (IM 75INT) which is 36" x 24" x 19" and here were the results with 2 x XR-15s (please note that lights were off in the pic so labels could be seen). These were mounted 6" apart on the standard RMS mounts (about 8" off the water's surface).

I have two G6 XR15’s over a 120g tank and after using a par meter, I now know that I need to add a third.

8" height isn't really good for g6's based on their beam spread.
126.3 degrees fwhm (i assume)
Means ever led spreads out in a 31" diameter circle
5" face of light to water..20" diameter..

For the o/ps tank at 30" wide..sure 8" works with a lot of par spread widely..

So if you saw the above I'd wager few would recommend no less than 6 xr15's..
2 rows of 3..
If 30's 3 "sidways"..

The issue is the width
Btw older gen's were usually considered to have 24x24 spread for lower light stuff 17x17 for higher light stuff
Gen6 is not like those .

I would look into other brands. Radions become cost prohibitive for larger tanks.

You could do 3 Orphek Icons set perpendicular and you won't need supplemental bars to assist in coverage.

This is a 24” fixture, rated for sps 30x24 when horizontal. If you mount front to back and center it over the tank, you will get 24W x 30D coverage. 3 of these should be enough to cover the entire tank and handle SPS

Par chart for a single unit over 36” but keep in mind with multiples you would have overlap in the end zones

I think you’ll be fine with those 3. One thing to remember about the IM 30” wide tanks, is the internal dimensions are actually 28.5”. Then consider you’re likely not stacking rock from the front to the back of the tank, and you’re not really trying to light up 30” of width.

I’ve got 4 xr15 over my 48x20x20 grows sps perfect. Eventually I’ll most likely need a couple led bars to reduce shading when frags turn to colonies.

Makes sense to me as it’s one xr15 per foot. But then your spending 500$ per foot to light the tank and still talking about needing supplemental lighting.
This is the amount needed though and when people use the right amount, it works!

Sorry. It irks me when I see people that are like “LED <and/or> Radions can’t grow coral. I have two XR15 over my 6 foot reef and nothing grew” lol

And at the same time, I feel a little joy when people are building things correct

Thanks for the joy

It’s definitely not the cheapest option! I am a fan of ecotech! I know a lot of people do not like their products. I’ve got 4 more xr15s on the way for the new build as well! Luckily i payed wholesale for them! Still $400 a piece though.

Also as far as the supplemental lighting goes. I think every successful sps tank will eventually need it! Whether it’s led bars or t5.

Amen brotha!

Have you tried other brand lights?
Everything hits everyone personally, after all, it’s what our tank looks like, so everyone has that personal preference and when they find a product they tend to be loyal. No need to explain to me lol

I am admittedly a reefbreeders fan since they came out with the photon v1

One can only hope to get to that level of success. A truly victorious day is the day you realize, hey, I need supplement bars cause these colonies be crazy out of control!

I’ve tried kessils, AI’s and orpheks. I am not a fan of kessil at all, I enjoy the hydras I think they are a good light but at the price id rather run radions. I love the orpheks! Probably my favorite lighting fixture. I just do not like the look of hanging them from my ceiling.

Brotha from anotha mother

I dislike kessil also
Hydras never tried but I have primes and think they are made poor and overrated
Orphek is great but not the most attractive
Radion is great but expensive

Soooo

Reefbreeders photon v2 for the win!

Come on, look how sleek this is. Silent, No fans. One wire for the whole tank, easily hidden. Proven spectrum. Plenty of power. Comes with tank mounts and hanging kit. Goooooo RB!

So fresh so clean!
