rainbow BTA wont "bubble up"

I got this rainbow BTA about 4 month ago. it has almost doubled in size. It looks healthy and is almost 12" across. Just curious why it never "bubbles" up on any of its tentacles? I was feeding it 1 silverside minnow per week but have cut that back to 1 over other week due to it getting so big.

There doesnt seem to be any known reason why some do and some do not. One thing I will advise is to discontinue feeding silver sides; stick to items like krill, clam, and squid. Large, singular meals tend to promote splitting so I'd recommend smaller offerings (if any at all).

If you want the growth to slow, quit feeding it.

When I first got my 2 they bubbled all the time. After about 16 months they stopped and did not bubble for about 6 or 7 months. At that point I upgraded to a larger tank. Added about 55% fresh salt water. They started bubbling within days and are still. I'm guessing there was a deficiency in the water as I did not do regular water changes and still do not. However I am going to start doing a 50% every 6 months for this reason. I also had an issue with my montipora which stopped after the water change. Just an experience. :-)

There has never been any concert reason to explain the phenomena. I have had BTW right next to each other one with bubbles and the other not. Three BTA all with different shaped tips.

Ime flow has a ton to do with it
First pic is after a split half bubbled due to power head position
Second is one of the splits bubbled up in low flow
Third is mother before split bubbled up

I have a friend with 60+ Rose Bubble Tips. They are spread across a 3 tanks. All tanks are identical in regards to size, flow and power head placement and lighting. They are all plumbed along the same system sitting next to each other and share the same water. They are all splits of the same anemone. One tank they are all bubbled the others they are not.

I've found mine to bubble when I frequently feed. I feed mine shrimp, whole and mysis.

They bubble up whimsically without rhyme or reason (so far as we know / can prove). I don't feed mine at all (depending on the circumstances - there are reasons that call for snack time). Some bubble, others do not.

Tinkered with a variety of lighting/trace ele parameters/types of foods/temp/feeding schedules/talking sweet/yelling/singing and couldn't come up with any consistent, reproducible results.

As far as I can tell they bubble up when they feel like it, and singing does not put them in the mood :D.

Thanks for the discussion. My flow and lighting have all remained the same. it moved around the tank for 3 days then decided it liked itself in high flow of the wave pump and directly under one of the lights. I do a 10% water change every week and parameters are always constant and good.

Maybe when I get some clowns in there it will have some friends and bubble up.

I have 2 14inch rose bta and 2 green bta in a 75g and they go from bubble tip to short tentacle to extremely long tentacle all in one day
One of my small green bta will bubble after feeding the other one just random and the rose are just absolutely random they have a lot of flow like crazy flow but don't like insane bright light they stay in the middle of the tank where the led kind of meet

I have a Rose BTA that split that I have 5 of them, never had any of them bubble.

Here's mine. Sometimes one nem can have half bubbled and other half not. All split from same nem.

Never feed mine and its inflates some tips and not others whenever it feels like it it seems.

My RBTA has always been bubbled since I saw it in the store. I don't really know what causes the bubbling to start and stop, but I know when I put my powerhead directly pointing at mine to move it, it started to lose it's bubbles a little so you might try adjusting flow a little bit away from it.

I'm not sure if this has been stated but what lighting are you using? I had some under 8x54 t5s and the bra I bought so big and bubbly deflated and went long tentacle style. Down the road I added some leds for supplement and within a few days only, Full on bubble. I feel they need the supplement from the light to get bubbled up.

The btas I've put in my tank have usually bubbled. Kept under LEDs. I don't feed. This one was a tiny bleached nem I found in a clients sump and she's really come around nicely! The one it split from isn't bubbled to well in their display but the sister clone I have looks to be doing well.
