I Just looked in my big tank and saw my Rainbow monti climbing on a branch of ORA roscoe.

On the other side the monti and a different arco have a line drawn.
I thought this is what happens not loss of my acro.

leave alone? or rip one out?

Montis will grow over anything.... Gotta remove one Marcus.... You got a 10th tank there has to be room somewhere for it lol....;)

+1 on ripping it out. i have seen montis grow right over a colony of zoas

Guess this is what happens when you over plant frags I got 10 foot tank and no room monti will hit a milli a lephestra, and a stag in the next 2 months. How do I peel it off the rock its pretty flat?

My rainbow is taking over sps also. I think montis might be out on my next tank.

I was just using it as a space filler btween acros. Guess some coral has to win I will try to get pic not to bad right now

I'm having the same issue, but I don't really care too much about the birdsnest it is starting to cover. The birdsnest started out as a piece that dropped off when I was moving some stuff around. It started to grow into a mini colony where it landed. I'm hoping to see some pretty cool growth forms for the montipora when it grows over the birdsnest.

I have same problem with sunset monti. Looked like pink lemonade was winning but sunset grows back to fast and pink lemonade is losing now. that was a big mistake. Now i'm gonna have to glue rocks on the sunset and hopefully kill it

I wonder if super glue or reef epoxy would kill it? You would likely have to cover further than it has grown.

epoxy over the top will.... if you use a bunch it would burn it since that stuff gets pretty hot as it cures..... just blocking the light should do the trick thou.....

Glad I saw this thread. I'm working on building an SPS tank, and in an attempt to get as much color in the tank as possible, I was considering putting monti or zoas on the rocks between the sps. Is this a bad/risky idea, or do I just need to be careful what I put between my sps corals?

very bad and risky idea even though some ppl say they do it with success. ur acros will grow out and cover the empty spaces in between. make a lil garden since they look nice together(polyps)

guess what fellas. I was killing my aiptasia with aiptasia x and decided to put a layer of it on my sunset monti for 5 minutes and it burned the crap out of it!

Put a Red Planet on top of it! My Red Planet is currently overtaking a monti cap, as well as a branch of my miami orchid (not really a fan of that, but it has grown four inches to get there).

That's good to know. I might actually do that. It would be a pretty color combination too.

Well when u get these high dollal encrusting montis they are thumbnail size and u figure its gonna take forever to grow 4 or 5 inches then they will be good and stop right next to the arcos and be all happy. I am only planting at really bright montis now and if they attack my acros ill be ok.

Now I have to go ripout a 2 or 3 bunches of cyesetrea as I at one time thought hey cool I can frag these and places them all over the tank bad idea these things crawl in the dark areas and under overhangs to get where they want to go

I recently started putting cyestrea and sunset montis on the bare bottom to cover the whole tank floor guess we will see how this turs out over time

Mushrooms also seem to stop my sunset monti. At least for the time being.

Here is an example of mine taking over my main rock structure. It is now taking over the chalice in the front of the picture. It was sold to me as a rainbow monti. It is building its own skeleton like a plating monti as you can see in the top right of the picture.
