I have a few new photos for you all!
I ended up changing the scape, but not how I expected (I don’t actually have any full tank shots to share today haha). The sand waterfall is going into a nano freshwater planted tank that will eventually house a squad of pea puffers. I will upload photos of that build for fun in the next update.

Hair algae mostly died off in the move. Hoping to keep it that way!

I’m moving to mostly soft corals and some lps now. I tend to kill anything that’s not squishy given enough time.

Now for the reef:

Any more updates on this wonderful build???

Unfortunately I have only very sad news to report. I hadn’t added anything to the tank in for awhile as I was preparing to go on a backpacking trip in Europe for the summer, and obviously nothing was added during the two and a half months I was away. When I returned home, about 10 days after my arrival, my tank was overtaken by a terrible case of velvet and all my fish, sans two Chromis, died within three days. My clownfish which were over a decade old, the pajama cardinal aged the same, my beloved Potter’s angel, all dead. It was absolutely devastating. We think the outbreak was triggered by the heat rising considerably that week and the tank getting much hotter than usual because our air conditioning broke.

I haven’t added a single thing to the tank since then - I barely look at it. I’m just letting the soft corals thrive of their own devices and the macro algaes grow unchecked. The tank is still dosed manually everyday and the fish fed, we scrub the glass, but nothing is going to be added for a long long time. That’s in part due to the fact that the tank is going to be moved to a new location over the summer and will provide a perfect chance for a fresh start and partly because I actually might tear it down for a short stint as I’m going to apply for a semester long exchange program abroad and don’t want to worry about the tank at that time.

Maybe I’ll post a picture of what the tank has become - no promises, I’m gearing up for Halloweekend and might not remember to do so.

Happy Halloween to all my fellow spooky lovers out there:)
