I want to watch but I don’t think I found any results when I searched “Randy Holmes Farley MACNA” on YouTube that showed Randy speaking.

Boston reefers Society apparently has the videos of MACNA 2004 because they took a poll noy t long ago to see what folks wanted to watch. But I do not see it posted online.

Considering I read an article by Randy today that he wrote in 2005 as I was trying to figure something out, I’d bet yes…for me anyway

I think it was really interesting how some “controversial options” remained after 20+ years.

For example, Randy mentioned that testing nitrite isn’t valuable because it wouldn’t reach toxic levels in seawater.

When I just started this hobby, I was taught that nitrite was so important to preventing fish deaths. I used to use those API kits, and I ALWAYS got undetectable, which made me feel like the kit was faulty lol.

I think the discussion about aspartic acid and amino acids was interesting. Corals might use amino acids to help them calcify. Kind of like a lattice?

I was surprised that he mentioned how water changes aren’t that effective for reducing nutrients. People still don’t choose to believe this.

It was fun to hear the man himself after reading his stuff for decades.

I find water changes are helpful for nutrients, but obviously only if I want to see a 20% change in nutrient level with my 20% water change :)
