Thanks. I cannot do that routinely since I am not there everyday, but I can do it when home. :)

I get it. I traveled for 7 years on the west coast for work and somehow still kept a 100g reef all alone until I left that industry in 99.
My gonis in my 15 have grown along with the leathers and the system is just 5 months.
If you see improvement their is a frozen fish food feeder now.

I’m impressed by how fast you beat the dinos. It was smart to not waste money on a microscope because the treatment is the same; just cut out the middleman.

Would you consider adding a boxfish? They are one of my favorite fish, but my flow is very strong.

Agree! Impressive. Every time I think I’ve beat it, it will show up several weeks later again. I’m hoping while on vacation the 9 days of tank getting dirty will boost competition and wipe them out. Randy seems gone a lot so maybe it’s valid

All the new real ocean rock and sand may have played a big role. :)

No plan for a boxfish. I had two long horned cowfish in my previous tank (one at a time) and I thought they were fabulous. One i had to euthanize when it could no long eat (maybe it didn't wear its teeth down enough) and one may have caused a tank disaster when i was away and something happened, killing it. Maybe ammonia in the middle of a power failure or something, but i suspect its toxins contributed.

I had a puffer in a different tank once, but it eventually got into a powerhead. :(

Thanks, yes, that's a possibility. I know several companies are working on them, but so far I've not been impressed with users reports enough to get one.

A lot of reefers would not like the look of my water, as it has a lot of particulate matter and what I think is phyto in it. :)

Same. I run no mechanical filtration beyond skimmer. Kind of triton method by letting all particulates settle in the fuges.

You dose phyto so would be counter productive but I’ve recently been trying coral snow out. It’s amazing what it allows the skimmer to pull out. I had a thought about Dino’s releasing into the water column at night. Right before lights out dumping coral snow. Seems it’s been super effective method for skimmer to pull out Dino’s.

Thanks for your experience. Do you think they’ll struggle in a tank with higher flow?

Do you know if they have the tendency to consume tridacna clams?

Never had one but won’t ever get one because I know everyone says they can’t handle high flow. Even local LFS won’t sell me one knowing my tank. Your tank is way too much flow @Miami Reef

They are not good swimmers, so I would be concerned about high flow. Not sure on clams. I do not know if my clams and my cowfish overlapped.

What do you think about alkalinity’s effect on acropora coloration. Do you think higher levels make the corals look brown or do you think it’s just a myth/placebo?

Is there any mechanism or theory that can logically explain how it might be causing a “brown effect,” if at all?

Curious about this as well. People grow fast SPS acros with reef crystals what 12DKH? But the tanks I’ve loved are always tropic marine @ 7.2-7.4
