Hey everyone,

I’m just inquiring about my RBTA’s health because I added it kind of prematurely, tank was started up 82 days ago, and I added my first fish 45 days ago, I never got to see my RBTA before I bought it at my LFS because it shrunk when they took it out the water and it sulked for a couple weeks but now I think it’s looking good but just wanted to inquire with more experienced people than me, ugly stage has also subsided atleast I think so, (diatoms are gone).

TYIA,

Looks a tad bleached but otherwise healthy. What type and intensity of light?

This was at the time of the picture running a prime non-hd on a 16” tall 20 gallon positioned about 3” from the surface level.

That sounds sufficient. BTA are incredibly resilient, even in newer systems. Is the Anemone moving around the tank a lot?

At first for like 1-2 weeks it hid underneath a rock balled up all the time but ever since I got my salinity in check it’s moved up to where it’s at now into more flow and more light but it’s stayed in the same spot now a week.

I agree BTAs are resilient and the anemone looks good just bleached
So does bleaching fix itself over time? I had no clue it was bleached, I saw a bleached one at petco and it was completely white so I assumed mine was fine, will feeding help unbleach if it’s possible to unbleach?

Yes, it's possible some coloration will return. You can offer very small pieces of raw seafood like shrimp or fish. Make sure the pieces are small and that the anemone doesn't expell the pieces. Don't over feed.
Anemones derive their coloration from the zooxanthellael living in the anemones tissue. Zooxanthellae provide nourishment to the anemone by producing carbohydrates. As long as the anemone displays decent coloration the zooxanthellae population should improve under the correct lighting and water parameters.

I had the issue of bleaching in one of my nems and it came back to full color and tips. It took quite a bit of time so be patient. I made sure my tank had coral aminos and the iodine was in check as well. Both necessary for coloration and health! Patience (not one of my virtues) has been the only constant for me!
