If you want to diversify your aquarium then take the cured decorative. The branch rock while being awesome shape, it will have to be tanked and cured 30 days before adding it to your tank…..and you get no benefit bacteria wise. However the decorative style is soaked in water within hours of landing at lax airport and kept in a huge rock system with tons of biomass that keeps the water quality top notch at all times. You really can’t ask for better handling than how I deal with the decorative style. It’s also super light weight compared to all other rocks. Best bang for your buck all around.

Bought 12 more pounds of Australian live rock to add more height to the aquascape. The main aquascape consists of 43 pounds of live rock plus 5 pounds or so of miscellaneous rock islands or pieces along the base. All purchased from Eric. Best rock there is available!

Does the Australian Live rock come shipped in water? Was it always submerged? What the minimum purchases amount? I’d like to add some biodiversity to my 550g system, and check out the quality for my 1200g system I am waiting for Joe to say “all clear” in order to figure out how the F I am going to get it in my house.

No ships moist in a bag. Also why shipping is pretty cheap considering it all. Ships from California overnight. I still had plenty of life on my branch rock and it’s still alive a month later.

Not submerged but sealed wet with some water in the bag. Customers have reported little to no ammonia spike.

Neither style is better than the other for cycling, but the decorative is more porous and lighter in style in regards to volume. So the decorative will give you more volume per pound. It just depends on your needs. If you want to build the structure using Australian rock then the premium is a better choice, but to top off or cover white bass rock that you could buy inexpensive pricing than the decorative works really well for that. It is also really good for building arches if you are savvy with glue.

For a 25 Lagoon- would you recommend premium or decorative? It’s barely enough room to stack two pieces. I’m open to your expert recommendation :)

I would take 5-7 lbs of decorative. Your corals will grow out to fill your lagoon. It will be enough.

I have purchased Australian rock from Eric as well as Florida ocean live rock from the vendors there. I have run the Florida rock side-by-side Marko dry rock. The live rock is far more resistant to nuisance algae—presumably because it already has biomass on the rock surface. That said, if you over feed your tank, have no clean-up crew, and blast the rock with light even ocean live rock can be overrun by nuisance algae. I blast my rocks with light (the upper rockscape gets 450-500+ PAR), but also have extensive clean-up crew and do not over feed. That said, even I have to deal with nuisance algae every so often despite using 100% ocean live rock.

Looks great! What did you use to glue everything together? And did you do it in the tank or out of the tank?

I went through two major rounds of aquascaping. The first round was an absolute nightmare since I was still trying to figure out what works.

I initially glued the large pieces together underwater in 27 gallon bins from Home Depot (the containers with the yellow lids which they sell for $8.98). I used DD Epoxy which was absolutely horrible since it polluted the water, set very slowly, and yielded a very weak bond even after a few hours of curing. I also used a bunch of super glue but that does not hold as well as expoxy.

For the second time around I used the Tropic Eden 3D moldable rock. That stuff works great since it sets very fast and does not pollute the water. I only used that for the larger and more important joints. For small joints I used superglue. I did most of the moldable rock/superglue outside the tank for short periods. I also applied moldable rocks directly inside the tank as well since it does not pollute the water. When using superglue to connect joints, super glue accelerator is very useful.

You can also jigsaw the rock pieces together first then reinforce key joints to be extra safe.

To cover up the moldable rock joints, I took small pieces of live rock and superglued them on top to hide the joints. This is why you can’t see any obvious joints on the rockscape.

You did a great job, your scape turned out awesome! I just got a shipment of this rock and I can tell its going to be a little bit of a challenge putting it together. I will check out the moldable rock!

Also, want to leave a solid and great review for Eric, I ordered this rock for my new tank I am setting up and Eric’s customer service is beyond excellent. Shipped fast and communicated with me at all hours of the day, and listened to what I wanted and delivered it fast! The rock is beautiful and is really special!

Here are the Australian live rocks in my system after 3 months. The scape got covered in coraline after 6-8 weeks which is record time for me. Last night I spent 4 hours redoing the structure on the far right. Since most of the scape is stacked rather than glued, the scape can be adjusted easily.

My parameters have been stable and I have pretty much no nuisance algae or uglies.

Do you know about how many pounds of rock this is? I am interested in getting this same kind of rock for my 80 gallon display. I already have some dry rock in there that I have had for about a year. I dont need to replace it all but I need to get some more diversity in my tank.
