Receding mantle advice

Hello all,
Last weekend I had a powerhead die and my flow was off. My derasa hadn't been opening fully since then. I put the replacement in yesterday and everything but the clam seemed fine.

Today mantle is completely receded. There was also an asterina in its mouth. No snails on the bottom. There's also a translucent film(mucus?) coming out of the opening. It's still responding to touch and clamping shut. My juvenile derasa is fine and so are fish and corals.


I'm assuming it's a goner. If not, what can I try?

Unfortunately I have never seen a clam recover once the mantle is so receeded.
What type of snail was found at the base, Pyramid?

No snails on the base. There was an asterina inside but thats it. My chevron tang is picking at the mucus...hoping he didnt kill it.

Ouch - this is not good.
First thing- IF YOU CAN, Peek inside clam and see if there any snails or crabs. Some causes are or may be:
- Agitation by an occupant such as shrimp. Receding often caused by simple irritation from an occupant
- Lights too bright
- too much water flow
- Foot : Is foot of the clam fuzzy? Should be attached to rock or sanf
- Feeding- are you giving it phyto or filter feeder foods?
- Have you added alk or such directly to the tank ?

My concern was too much flow over last 24 hours but idk. There are asterina inside but not sure how to get them out. I don't spot feed since the clam is 5-6 inches. No alk added but it did drop to 6ish...but everything else including a juvenile derasa is fine.

The clam is dead.
Clams are notorious for dropping dead under minimal stress.
Could be a damage to the byssal gland or threads.

I figured. Was hoping I could learn something but I guess it just happens sometimes. Thank you for your help!

with nothing to lose, Try a freshwater dip. Sometimes clams do respond to such and in the process, you may be able to get those asterinas out of the clam.
